Sevenoaks driving test routes

Got a test booked at Sevenoaks? Here's what to expect, from a local instructor who's sat in the back of over 120 tests here.

  • Sat in on over 120 Sevenoaks tests
  • 86% pass rate in 2026 (50 of 58 tests)
  • Twelve routes, four with the A21
  • 4.9 from over 110 Google reviews

What to expect on a Sevenoaks driving test

You'll drive for around 35 minutes. Much of that is independent driving, usually following the examiner's sat nav. You'll also do one reversing manoeuvre, pull over on the left a few times (often including a hill start) and, on about one test in seven, an emergency stop.

The examiner, route and manoeuvre are allocated before you arrive, so there's no hoping for an easy one. The only sensible approach is to be ready for all of it.

And Sevenoaks asks more of you than most test centres:

  • Hills, with plenty of hill starts
  • Closed junctions where you can't see until you're right at the line
  • Fast country roads, and the A21 dual carriageway on four of the twelve routes
  • Cyclists, especially at weekends, who need at least 1.5 metres when you overtake
  • Older car parks with narrow bays, where your manoeuvre might happen

I often see candidates who aren't local surprised by how demanding it feels compared with where they've practised. Once you understand the area, it becomes predictable.

Why people fail in Sevenoaks

According to the Sevenoaks test centre manager

  1. Poor observations, especially a missed or ineffective look before acting
  2. Not stopping at a STOP junction, even when the road looks clear
  3. Not making progress on the A21, particularly when joining

What I see most, from the back seat

  1. Poor observations to the right at roundabouts. A quick glance isn't enough when traffic is coming quickly.
  2. Test-day nerves, which make capable drivers do things they never do in lessons, and turn one small mistake into several.
  3. Rolling into closed junctions. Where you can't see, you may need to stop, creep and peep.
  4. Pulling out too slowly onto fast country roads and short A21 slip roads. Hesitating here can be dangerous in itself.
  5. Staring at the sat nav. Quick glances only, or your steering starts to drift.

Each of these has its own chapter in the book, and the narrated routes show you where they tend to happen. For nerves, my free guide can help →

Common hazards on Sevenoaks driving test routes

HazardWhat catches people out
Closed junctionsWalls, hedges and parked cars hide the road until you're at the line. Slow down early and creep forward until you can see.
STOP junctionsA STOP sign means a complete stop, even when the road is obviously clear.
The A21Some slip roads are short. Accelerate firmly to join and slow down promptly to leave.
BottlenecksParked cars leave room for one vehicle. Decide early who has priority, and be ready to hold back.
Car parksOlder bays are narrow. Practise in tight car parks, not just wide supermarket ones.
CyclistsLeave at least 1.5 metres, more at higher speeds. If you can't, wait behind.

The narrated routes show you where each of these is, in the order you're likely to meet them.

Sevenoaks Driving Test Routes

See the roads before you drive them. The twelve route variations I see used most, with me talking you through each one.

What's inside

  • A video of each route, narrated, with what to look out for and why
  • Watch at normal speed to learn a route, or at 5× to revise it in a few minutes
  • A PDF for each route, with the junctions, bottlenecks and likely pull-over spots marked
  • Every route as a GPX sat nav file, so you can load it into a compatible sat nav and drive the routes yourself
  • Set out in a deliberate order, so each route builds on the last and together they cover the most ground

It usually takes six to nine hours of driving to get to know all twelve routes. Watching them first means those hours go further.

See how examiners actually mark. Real tests taken by my learners, with my commentary on what went well and where faults were given.

What's inside

  • Dashcam footage of real Sevenoaks driving tests, filmed through the windscreen, so you see the road, never the learner
  • The moment each minor or serious fault was given, and why
  • What went well, so you can see what examiners are happy with
  • How the rules are interpreted on the day, which is hard to learn any other way

The routes are the ones I see used most often, not official DVSA routes, and your examiner may go elsewhere. These products help you prepare, but they aren't a substitute for practice on the roads themselves.

What people say

Geoff's videos covering Sevenoaks' test routes were a game changer for me. Despite not being a Sevenoaks local his videos made me confident in taking a driving test there and I passed!

Tom M.

Geoff uses dashcam footage and talks you through the minors and majors in test conditions in real time… Highly recommend and worth every penny.

Looking for lessons?

I teach learners who live in Sevenoaks and the surrounding villages, from their first lesson to test day, and my diary is planned well ahead.

That's exactly why I made the book and the videos: so you can prepare for Sevenoaks wherever you live.

If you live locally and are just starting out, I'd love to hear from you.

Questions about the book and videos

Are these the official test routes?

No. DVSA doesn't publish official routes. These are the twelve variations I see used most often, from sitting in on over 120 Sevenoaks tests.

Will my examiner definitely use one of them?

Not necessarily. Examiners can go anywhere, and roadworks change things. But the routes cover the roads, junctions and car parks you're most likely to meet.

I'm not local. Which should I start with?

The narrated routes, because the roads are what usually surprise people. Add the book if you'd like to understand how the test works and how you're marked.

How quickly do I get access?

Straight away. Payhip emails you a link as soon as you've paid, and everything is yours to keep, with no time limit.

Can I watch it on my phone, tablet or computer?

Yes. Everything works on your phone, tablet or computer, as long as you're connected to the internet.

Is the book on Amazon?

Yes, in paperback (opens in a new tab) and on Kindle (opens in a new tab). You can also buy the PDF ebook here.

Can I get a refund?

Because these are digital products you can access straight away, they aren't eligible for a refund. If something doesn't work as it should, get in touch and I'll put it right.
